Registrations

Can I attend for free?

If your circumstances prevent you from affording the costs of submissions or attendance, please contact the Organising Committee. Discounts, which includes free registration for attending the December plenaries, apply to individuals and small organisations from low and medium income countries who can not benefit from public organisation or private company support.

Can I submit a paper or e-presentation without registering?

No, registrations finance the conference organisation, submission management and editing.
If you intend to register at a later stage but would like to submit your contribution early, please send a note to the Organising Committee for management purposes.

What if I cannot afford registration?

Please contact the Organising Committee, depending on funding availability and your circumstances you might qualify for discounted or free registration. Opening exposure and participation to the conference is an explicit policy of the Organising Committee who will study each case and endeavour to broaden access as much as is possible.

How much does registration cost?

Registration is 50 USD. Should you need sponsorship, please contact the Organizing Committee.

Submissions

When should I submit my publications?

The deadline for publications’ submission has passed.

Who is OFE2023 intended for?

Anyone interested in farmer-centric On-Farm Experimentation, across production, value chain and policy dimensions. This may include:
– Farmers, who want to know how to start OFE on the ground
– Advisors who seek ideas on experimental design
– Data specialists who want to catch up on analytical methods
– Social scientists who want to investigate applied co-creation pathways
– Start-ups, NGOs, product and service providers who want to work on value propositions
– Industry representatives, policy makers and deciders who want to explore actionable actions for change

What is the scope of OFE2023 submissions?

All contributions are invited that may:
– Progress the OFE sciences, across and at the intersection of agronomy, data and social sciences
– Contribute bringing OFE communities together.
Submissions addressing this year’s overarching theme “Exploring shared value propositions” are particularly welcome, however it is not a pre-requiste for selection.

When can I submit my abstract?

Abstract submission is closed.

What is the publication cost?

The publication of a short video is 80 USD and the publication of 5-page paper is 300 USD.
The publication fees are independent of each other and do not include the 50 USD conference registration fee, which should be paid in addition to publication fees.

My abstract has been submitted, what happens next?

– Authors who have received notice that their abstract has been accepted should prepare a paper or short video (ePresentation) by the deadlines (October 1^st). Detailed guidelines are provided below. If you have any questions, please contact conference@gofen.org.
– Some authors have been advised to proceed, but to ensure that they pay attention to the goals of the conference. The common issues were as follows:

. That the abstract clearly described OFE, but from the scientist rather than the farmer perspective. The questions that need addressing include: How does the activity address farmers’ needs? How does the farmer gain? How were the farmers involved in identifying the needs and addressing solutions? How does the process organize farmers and support their learning?

. Some abstracts described technology (including PA technology) that could support OFE, but the process by which it could do so is unclear. How is the technology helping?

. Some abstracts described farmer-centric activity, but the role of experimentation or analysis of learning outcomes needs explanation.

– Authors who have been asked to modify their abstract can resubmit at https://www.gofen.org/ofe2023/ any time before 30^th July. These will be checked by the Organising Committee who will then advise authors to prepare their papers or videos for submission by October 1^st.

Paper or ePresentation?

If you selected undecided for paper presentation or ePresentation at the abstract stage, you will now have the choice to submit a paper or an ePresentation.

What happens to papers?

– Papers will be reviewed by the Scientific Committee and processed through to the International Conference in December. All approved papers will be included in the conference proceedings and loaded onto Cornell University’s research document repository, from which they are discoverable and citable.
– Selected papers will be invited to present during conference plenary. All others will be summarised at plenary.
– The preparation process is as follows:

. Authors should upload their paper via the Jotform link sent on August 31^st in the invitation email and following the Word template before October 1^st.

. On October 2^nd, the papers will be sent for review by the Scientific Committee and returned to authors on or before 1^st November with suggestions for revisions, if necessary. Authors will be requested to return corrected final version papers for checking by 1^st December.

. Final version papers will then be formatted, processed via a pro-editing service and returned as proofs to authors for checking.

. The Organising Committee will then assemble all papers in the Conference Proceedings and load into Cornell University’s Digital Repository.

– Negotiations are under way with an international journal (Impact Factor > 5) to develop a limited number of papers into a special issue in 2024.

What are the paper guidelines?

– Format

. 2500 word limit for the body of the text, including the abstract and references but excluding title, authors.

. Format may be as a classic scientific paper (including introduction, objectives, methods, results, discussion & conclusion); a discussion paper (introduction, observations, conclusions) or as a case study paper (introduction, details, conclusion).

. In all cases, the paper should include:

– Title

– Authors, affiliations and email of corresponding author

– Abstract (150 word limit)

– Conclusion (Will be used as index, should be short (~100 words) and to the point)

– References

. Papers should closely follow the Word template provided here, and be submitted using the online form here.

. Figures or photographs will be uploaded separately.

. Submissions are in English, but authors who want to feature duplicated versions of their papers in other languages are invited to discuss options with the Organising Committee. Please email conference@gofen.org.

– Content

– contribute to bringing OFE communities together through relevant practice, novel insights or methods development.

. Submissions addressing this year’s overarching theme “Exploring shared value propositions” are particularly welcome, however it is not a pre-requisite for selection.

What happens to ePresentations?

– Authors who have been instructed to proceed to ePresentation should submit their MP4 video via the Jotform link sent in the Aug. 31^st invitation email on or before 1^st October.
– E-Presentations will be reviewed for scope, science and impact by the Organizing and Scientific Committees soon after 1^st November. The Scientific Committee will advise to pass with no modification, pass with optional modifications or pass with substantial modification. The Organising Committee reserves the right not to continue with ePresentations if they are out of scope or of insufficient quality.
– A number of ePresentations will be selected for the Conference Plenary. All other accepted ePresentations will be summarised at plenary. All ePresentations will be uploaded after the Conference to the dedicated OFE_2023 YouTube Channel.
– Format

. EPresentations should be no more than 4 minutes long (shorter is preferred).

. Free format. We will post guidelines shortly to help authors prepare their videos.

– Content

. For scope and content, the same guidance applies as to authors of papers (see content above), to try to ensure that the subject of the ePresentation is farmer-centric change and that it should aim to explain the cross-over between technology, data and farmer-centric change.

What are the ePresentation guidelines?

Please provide an abstract with your ePresentation following this Word template
– Format

. Please prepare a short video of 4 minutes or less.

. Save your video in MP4 format.

. Pay attention to the sound quality and volume by experimenting with your microphone system and recording process before to record the entire video.

. Use 4K Ultra HD format for your video if available and a minimum of 1080p screen resolution.

– The body of the ePresentation is up to the authors and the expectations are that it will address some or all of the followings:

* How is your project farmer-centric?

* What is the value that OFE brings to your project?

* What problem do you try to address with the OFE process?

* What was your methodology?

* What was the farmers’ engagement process?

* What is the contribution for your work to our understanding of OFE?

– Conclusion

* Provide a short summary of your take home message at the end of your video.

Sponsorship

How can I or my organisation sponsor registrations?

You may:
– Directly register on behalf of the persons you would like to sponsor, adding a note when registering so that we can acknowledge your contributions
– Consider becoming an Inclusivity Sponsor and allocate your registration funding through Cornell University.

How can I become a full conference sponsor?

Please contact the Organising Committee. Sponsorships are needed to support discounted registration, management, and the communication of conference activities. Non-financial contributions are also encouraged, for instance capacity commitment.
